How We Find, Review, Test, and Rank Coupons
Our Mission to Help You Save
At TopCouponSites, our mission is to help shoppers save money at online checkout. To achieve this, we believe in being honest and transparent about how we operate. This page explains the process behind discovering, reviewing, testing, and ranking every coupon on our site.
How We Find Coupon Codes
Finding the best coupon codes means looking where they’re shared and promoted. Today, coupons can be found almost anywhere—from your email inbox to podcast ads, or even on billboards.
To ensure we find the most relevant coupons, we search far and wide. We regularly collect coupon codes from over 15 different sources:
- Common Online Sources: We start by searching for codes shared on social media, emails, and other platforms where online stores promote their offers.
- Direct From Stores: We receive codes directly from stores or indirectly through affiliate networks.
- Shopper Submissions: We also get coupons from shoppers who share codes they find in places like newspaper ads, posters, or receipts.
Sources Breakdown:
- Websites & Social Media: 55%
- Direct Marketing: 25%
- Online Ads: 10%
- Stores & Affiliate Networks: 7%
- Shopper Submissions: 3%
How We Review and Classify Coupon Codes
Reviewing and classifying coupon codes is a significant effort at TopCouponSites. We’ve built a system that combines human review with AI technology to filter out the best coupons for shoppers.
Here’s a glimpse of the process:
- Our system discovers around 30,000 potential coupon codes daily.
- About 75% (22,500 codes) are discarded—they might be outdated, low quality, or duplicates.
- The remaining 25% (7,500 codes) are reviewed based on our strict guidelines to ensure we only publish high-quality coupons that help shoppers save.
- We reject around 5,500 codes daily that are unlikely to be useful, often because they target niche products, low-quality stores, or stores not listed on TopCouponSites.
- Around 5% (1,500 codes) of the daily discovered coupons are published on our site—these are the ones we believe will truly help you save at checkout.
How We Test Coupon Code Quality
After finding and publishing as many coupon codes as possible, we ensure their quality to help shoppers save effectively. Here’s how we do it:
- Reliable Sources: Most of our coupons come directly from stores or their marketing campaigns. We don’t recycle expired codes from other sites. We focus on sourcing high-quality codes directly from the source.
- Fast Discovery and Publishing: Many coupons are valid for just a few days or hours. The faster we find, review, and publish them, the more shoppers we can help. Some codes are live on our site within minutes of discovery.
- Daily Testing: We test over 8,000 coupons daily through human reviews and automated systems to verify their status.
How We Rank and Display Coupons
Deciding which coupons to display at the top of our pages is complex. While we add new codes quickly, many expire soon after. Some codes are only valid for specific products or have restrictions like “buy one, get one free.”
To make things easier for shoppers, we’ve built a ranking system that considers multiple factors:
- Code Validity: Newer codes are more likely to work, so we prioritize them at the top.
- Code Value: We aim to help you save the most, so we rank higher-value codes (e.g., 15% off vs. 10% off) higher.
- Testing Results: We use our daily testing results to update the display and ranking of codes.
- Shopper Feedback: We receive thousands of feedback submissions from shoppers about which codes work or have expired, and we factor this into our rankings.
Why You Might Not Always Find a Working Coupon
We know how frustrating it can be to try a bunch of coupon codes and find none that work. While we strive to find and publish the latest coupons for every store on TopCouponSites, there are reasons you might not always find a working code:
- Coupons Expire Quickly: We update our pages as fast as possible, but many stores don’t share exact expiration dates. We rely on user feedback and testing to identify expired codes.
- Store-Specific vs. Product-Specific Codes: Many codes are only valid for specific products, categories, or offers like “buy one, get one free,” and may not apply to everything.
- First-Time Shopper Discounts: Some stores offer discounts only for first-time shoppers. We try to include such conditions in the coupon description.
Why We Still Display Codes That Might Not Work
Since coupon conditions vary, it’s hard to know exactly when a code stops working for everyone. Our priority is to help as many shoppers save as possible, so we may display codes even if we’re unsure of their status.
We also show known expired codes because they can still work for some shoppers. If a code has even a small chance of helping someone save, we want to make it available.
